ALCATEL TRANSPORT AUTOMATION SYSTEMS DIVISION SELECTED FOR THE AUTOMATION OF THE KENNEDY AIRPORT LIGHT RAIL

Alcatel Transport Automation Systems Division, with its world leading Communications Based Train Control technology, SELTRAC, has been selected for the signalling of the JFK Airport Light Rail System (ALRS). A contract is expected to be signed in the next few weeks.

Alcatel Canada Inc., Transport Automation is part of the Bombardier Transportation team, whish was selected on April 16, 1998 by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to build the JFK ALRS. As part of the team, Alcatel Canada will supply and commission its proven SELTRAC Communications Based Train Control system for the 8.4 mile, 10 station, 32 vehicle light rail project. Operations will be completely driverless and automatic, and will move passengers between six terminals at the John F. Kennedy Airport and will link the airport’s central terminal area to regional intermodel hubs at the Howard Beach Subway Station and the Jamaica Transportation Centre.
